Ampi/ Udaipur, Sep 4: The villagers of Dhanlekha, Lokte Para, Longtheng Para, Kalai Para and Holowa Para expressed resentment over the role of the concerned Block and PWD authorities for not renovating the 3.5 km stretch of a road from Kalai Para to Longtheng Para Mount Carmel English Medium School in Ampi area.
As per the local sources, this road was constructed with brick soling during the Left Front regime. Without any repair and renovation work, brick soling decayed over time. At present, the road is covered with green grass in many places along the road. This led to uneven and large-sized potholes along the road. Moreover, both sides of the stretch have also collapsed.
In both dry and rainy seasons, the road remains non-navigable by vehicles. In case of any emergency, villagers face extreme difficulties in crossing the stretch.
“We have submitted applications to the concerned authority to renovate the road including drainage system but nothing has happened, so far”, locals alleged.
The villagers are demanding full carpeting of the 3.5 km long stretch of this road.
Meanwhile, villagers of West Khupilong Gram Panchayat also raised strong demand for repairing the 3km long road which extends from Khupilong Bazar to BSF Headquarters via Jalemabari, Manikya Para and Barobhaiya Panchayat.
The road is in precarious condition owing to a lack of repairing works for a long time. Neither the previous Left Front government nor the incumbent BJP government took any initiative to renovate the road.
Poor road condition is affecting villagers of vast areas and the school students are the worst sufferers. Transporting pregnant women on this road is also a big task. Vehicles are charging extra fares for travelling on this road.
Locals alleged local MLA and Minister Rampada Jamatia is not paying attention to Khupilong area which falls under his Assembly constituency.
Local gram Panchayat Pradhan Joya Nama and Upa-pradhan Nakul Majumder alleged several pleas were placed before the concerned authority demanding renovation of the road – but the concerned department did not pay heed. Negligence of the department is affecting the villagers, Joya Nama said.
