Agartala, Aug 23: The Centre has approved release of Rs. 40 crore in advance, as the central share from SDRF, to provide relief to the flood-affected people in Tripura.
On Friday, the update came from Union Home Minister Amit Shah on X. He also mentioned that the Centre has already deployed 11 NDRF teams, 3 columns of the Army, and 4 helicopters of the Air Force to Tripura for assisting the in relief and rescue operations.
"No matter what, our sisters and brothers in Tripura will find the Modi govt standing shoulder-to-shoulder with them to battle these difficult times," the Home Minister mentioned on X.
In response, Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for this support in this difficult time of flood.
"The constant support from your side is helping & motivating us to firmly fight this tough situation. I on behalf of Tripura convey my regards to the caring govt. in the central," the Chief Minister replied to the Union Minister's X post.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister on Friday took an aerial view of flood-affected areas in Agartala, Udaipur, Amarpur and Karbook by an MI-17 helicopter.
As the rain stopped, the situation continues to improve with the flood water started receding while efforts are underway to support the affected people and mitigate the impact.
The Chief Minister also visited the flood-affected areas in Udaipur, Gomati district and relief camps at Khilpara Higher Secondary School and Khilpara Market Shed. He interacted with the flood-affected people and reviewed the management in the relief camps.
Dr. Saha, accompanied by officials, the inspected the Gomati river. During the time of visit, the river was flowing at 22.30 meters, which was above the extreme danger level of 22 meters.
All the families on the bank of the Gomati river in Amarpur, Udaipur, Sonamura and adjoining villages have been evacuated to safe places.
Meanwhile, the road infrastructure suffered severe damages in Amarpur region. In the face of adversity, Helicopters have been deployed for airlifting the stranded people and road repair efforts are also underway.
In a social media post, the Chief Minister commented, "We have ample food packets and 4 helicopters in operation. Our teams are working diligently to provide aid to affected communities."
