Agartala, Apr 12: The annual Biju festival of the Chakma community commenced with religious fervor in Tripura on Friday.
The three-day event marking the arrival of the new year begins with Phul Biju, a day when community members honor the natural world and their spiritual beliefs.
In the early morning, Chakma people collected flowers and made offerings at Ganga Ghat during a ceremony at Ranir Pond.
Later, the devotees participated in a rally to the Buddha temple in Agartala, where they offered puja as part of the festivities.
This ritual is a way to pay tribute to the rivers and celebrate the new season.
As part of the event, houses across the Chakma community were cleaned and decorated with flowers, while lamps were lit in Buddhist temples and households.
The Biju festival will continue for two more days, featuring further celebrations and customs that embrace the culture and traditions of the Chakma people.
