Agartala May 24: Locals of Krishnanagar area near Thakur Prabhat Chandra Roy Sarani in the capital city stated protest against construction of Ward Office in the area on Wednesday morning.

According to reports, the local club authorities demanded construction of a new ward office in the area but the residents denied the decision adding that the park should not be used for any sort of construction.

Speaking to the reporters, the agitating locals said, “The park is an open place where children can play and the elderly can sit. Besides, various social programs are also done in the open area”.

One of the elderly residents of the area said, “The AMC has recently constructed an open gym in this area and also made arrangements for sitting. The only open place in the area is used for many activities entire year and therefore we are opposing any sort of construction in this place”.

She added, “This open space is utmost necessary for the children”.

 The locals further alleged that without any intimation the construction work for new ward office building has already started in the park which is not acceptable.

Police of west Agartala police station also reached the spot on receiving the information of agitation.

However, the locals informed to approach the senior authorities to ensure that no construction is done in the area.
