Agartala, Sept 02: Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha chaired a special meeting of the State Level Bankers' Committee (SLBC) at the Secretariat on Monday.
The meeting focused on the unexpected flood and its impact across Tripura.
The meeting was attended by secretaries, special secretaries, directors, and high-ranking officials from various departments. During the session, officials presented detailed reports on the damage caused by the floods.
In a press conference held at the Secretariat’s conference hall, Finance secretary Apurba Roy briefed the media about the key discussions in the meeting.
He said, representatives from various banks assured their commitment to assist those affected by the floods, particularly in the agricultural sector.
The banks planned to coordinate with various departments to organize camps in affected areas, offering financial support including loans.
They also pledged to extend assistance under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban and Rural) to the flood victims. Other focus areas included the PMEGP, Swabalamban, PM Vishwakarma Scheme, Kisan Credit Card, educational loans, rural infrastructure development, and increasing the Credit-Deposit Ratio.
The Finance Secretary further mentioned that secretaries from various departments presented assessments of the damage in their respective sectors to the bank authorities. The Agriculture department is currently evaluating the extent of the damage to farmers, with the final assessment expected to be shared with the banks within a week.
Additionally, the Secretaries of the Animal Resources Development department and the Fisheries department reported significant losses in their sectors.
Officials from the Social Welfare and Social Education, Education, Rural Development, Industry and Commerce, and Urban Development departments also presented reports on the losses the respective departments have suffered.
The press conference was also attended by Director of Group Insurance and Institutional Finance Rakhi Biswas and SLBC Convenor Khaturaj Krishna, among others.
