Agartala, June 16: The state committee of the Central Trade Union on Sunday sought the intervention of the government to ensure gratuity for the workers and helpers of the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) project.
Addressing a press conference here at Agartala on Sunday, the CITU state committee leader Sankar Prasad Dutta said, "Over 19000 workers and helpers engaged in the ICDS project here in Tripura are being deprived of gratuity."
"The Supreme Court of India in its order in the year 2022 held that the ICDS workers and helpers across the country are entitled to gratuity on their retirement, but the Central government has not taken any initiative yet to ensure gratuity," he said, adding that in case of Tripura, the High Court this year on May last has directed the state government to provide gratuity to the ICDS workers and helpers in the state.
"The BJP government in Tripura has failed to implement the order of the High Court," he told reporters.
On the other hand, a woman activist of the trade union said that recently the Karnataka government and the Gujarat government has initiated the process of providing gratuity to the Anganwadi workers of their state. But here in our state, the government has failed to implement the court order despite one month having passed by.
She said, "The government here has neither increased wages for the Anganwadi workers and helpers, nor did the government took initiative to provide gratuity."
