Agartala, oct 20: Soon after the Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha Thursday launched Nirman Shramik Welfare Scheme 2.0 here at Agartala Rabindra Bhawan, the trade union of the communist party discredited the government for the scheme and claimed that the welfare scheme for construction workers was first launched by the previous Left front government.
Addressing a press conference here at the CITU state committee office, the former MP and also the trade union leader Sankar Prasad Dutta claimed, “The Left front government had formed Tripura board of welfare for the construction workers in the year 2007 and started working for the welfare of the workers of this state.”
He slammed the BJP government and said, “The Left front government had sanctioned the grand in aid amounting to Rs. 25000 for the purpose of the marriage of the women construction workers, but during the last four and half years of the BJP government no initiative was taken to hike the financial assistance, rather the government today unveiled Nirman Shramik Welfare Scheme 2.0 to announce that the financial assistance will be hiked. But in that case no specific period was mentioned as to when it will be hiked.”
“We all know that this government is totally a cheater and factually failed to meet a single promise out of 299 published in their vision document in the year of 2018,” he said, alleging that the BJP government had failed to work for the welfare of the working class people of this state.
Citing an example of the jute mill which was almost shutdown during the time of previous Left front government, the CITU leader said, “At a time when over 800 workers were inducted in producing jute-based products from the lone jute mill of this state, in the present time during the rule of this BJP government, only 117 workers are found to be involved with the work in the jute mill and moreover the production is almost shutdown.”
He alleged that the existing skilled workers in the jute mill are inducted in cleaning drains, jungles and other related works under the rule of this BJP government. “There were some medium-scale industries which were set up during the previous Left front government, but all these were shut down under the rule of the BJP government,” he further alleged.
The CITU leader on Thursday reacted sharply to the launch of Nirman Shramik Welfare Scheme 2.0 by the Chief Minister and said that the government is trying to take the credit of their own with the developmental works started during the rule of the previous Left front government.
