Agartala Aug 23: Boarding an air force helicopter, the chief minister Dr Manik Saha on Friday morning headed for Gomati and South Tripura districts to take a note of the flood situation.
Although the rain finally stopped after four continuous days, the floods, triggered by the heavy showers have led to unprecedented devastation across the state rendering more than 65,000 families displaced.
The record flood situation in the state also killed at least 12 people following drowning and landslips in many places.
Having assessed the urgency of the situation, the chief minister took proactive measures to cope up with the dire situation and also spoke to the union government for necessary help.
Friday, he headed towards two of the most affected districts of the state; South Tripura and Gomati to assess the ongoing situation.
Dr Saha emphasized the importance of collective efforts and urged the affected individuals to remain calm and cooperate with the rescue personnels for moving to shelter houses.
The local leaders of the Bharatiya Janta Party including MLAs, administrative authorities including Special DM and Collector Gomati District Ravel Hemendra Kumar joined Dr Saha in his visit.
About the situation in Gomati district, the chief minister in his social media post mentioned, "Gomati river is still flowing at 22.30 meters which is above extreme danger level of 22 meters. We have shifted all the families on the bank of Gomati river in Amarpur, Udaipur, Sonamura and surrounding villages".
Dr Saha requested all the citizens to be alert till the water level comes down to normal level.
