Agartala, Jan 18: Several people including AICC Tripura in-charge Dr. Ajay Kumar were injured when a clash broke out between two groups of Congress and BJP at Majlishpur constituency soon after the announcement of the assembly polls on Wednesday.
Congress MLA Sudip Roy barman alleged that when the party’s bike rally reached Majlishpur constituency, the local elected representative and minister himself stopped the rally following which there was an incident of stone-pelting.
Besides, the Congress workers were severely attacked at Ranirbazar, where the AICC Tripura in-charge also received injuries and several bikes were vandalized. The injured persons were rushed to hospital. He said, prior permission was granted for the bike rally.
Meanwhile, the security personnel reportedly resorted to a lathi-charge to disperse the two groups of Congress and BJP.
Speaking to the media, Roy Barman said, the full-bench of Election Commission during the recent Tripura visit was informed that the ‘atmosphere is not conducive’ at Majlishpur, Mohanpur and some other constituencies.
He said, the Congress may approach ECI to hold elections at Majlishpur and Mohanpur along with some other constituencies on another day.
The Congress MLA also said, the minister should be arrested immediately and action should be taken against the other persons involved in the attack incident.
Meanwhile, there was also a report of an attack on a BJP party office at Majlishpur. According to sources, Majlishpur constituency also witnessed an argument between Congress leader Ashis Saha and minister Sushanta Chowdhury after the bike rally reached there.
