Agartala, June 20: Tripura pradesh Congress leader and by-poll candidate for 6- Agartala assembly constituency Sudip Roy Barman was hospitalized after being attacked by a group of miscreants at Abhoynagar on Sunday night.

Tension ran high at Abhoynagar following the incident just three days before the by-election. Security personnel in adequate numbers have been deployed at the spot to avoid any further untoward incident.

Roy Barman was shifted to ILS Hospital and put under medical observation soon after the attack.

According to sources, another person close to Roy Barman was first attacked by the miscreants. After receiving information on the incident, when the Congress leader reached the spot, he was also attacked and his vehicle was vandalized.

Congress leader and Bordowali by-poll candidate Ashis Kumar Saha rushed to the hospital and blamed ruling BJP for the attack. He alleged that the whole incident had taken place in presence of Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, BJP candidate Dr. Ashok Sinha and police personnel. 

"After receiving information that a party worker was attacked, Sudip Roy Barman rushed to the spot where he found and asked Sushanta Chowdhury regarding the incident.
But, the BJP miscreants suddenly started pelting stones from the back side leaving him injured. The situation was highly tense," Saha told the reporters at the ILS Hospital.

However, BJP's reaction on the allegation levelled by the Congress leader was not available immediately.
