Agartala, March 23: Two days after the state finance minister Pranajit Singha Roy presented Rs 32423.44 Crore tax free budget with an increase of 16.61 percent over the BE 2024-25, the opposition Congress party on Sunday flayed the budget and termed it ‘Jhumla’ like that of the BJP’s pre-poll promises.
Addressing a press conference here at Agartala Congress Bhavan on Sunday, the congress state spokesperson Prabir Chakraborty said, “After 2014, like the central budgets, the state has been proposing the budget every year since 2018 and in almost all cases, like that of the pre-poll promises, the BJP government here have been making false promises through their budget, which have been failing to the meet the aspiration of the people of this state.”
“The state budget has failed to highlight the key issues, where inflation has been landing the people in trouble. Working class people and the farmers are facing problem. This government has proposed scheme for farmers to enhance their income, but in reality, the farmers in Tripura are finding difficulties in earning their livelihood due to low cost of their production,” he told reporters.
He flayed the state budget for not allocating budget for the farmers affected by the devastating flood took place in Tripura last year.
“Even there is no mention of procurement of agricultural produce as per the prescribed formula of MSP. Although 11.94 percent has been allocated in the education sector, the budget has no mention about filling up thousands of vacant teaching posts in Anganwari, primary education sector, higher secondary, colleges and universities or making new appointments,” he said.
He continued taking a dig at the state budget and said that the Congress party will launch massive movement in near future against the policies of the BJP led government in Tripura and at the Centre.
