Agartala, Feb 07: The Tripura Pradesh Congress staged a protest in Agartala on Friday, condemning Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence over the reported mistreatment of deported Indians from the United States. According to reports, Indian deportees were allegedly shackled with handcuffs and leg irons before being sent back to the country, sparking widespread outrage.
During the protest, Congress leaders burned an effigy of Prime Minister Modi, accusing him of failing to stand up for Indian citizens facing inhumane treatment abroad. Addressing the demonstrators, Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman criticized the Modi government for not taking a firm stance against such actions.
“Even smaller nations like Colombia and Mexico have confronted Donald Trump on similar issues and ensured better treatment of their citizens. Yet, our Prime Minister remains silent while Indians are subjected to such humiliation,” said Barman.
The MLA further recalled that during the tenure of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, a strong diplomatic response was issued when Indian diplomats faced mistreatment in the U.S. “The then Prime Minister took immediate countermeasures, forcing the U.S. to apologize. Today, under Modi’s leadership, India is failing to protect its people,” he asserted.
