Agartala Nov 06: AIKS state secretary Pabitra Kar’s brother Prashanta Kar was granted bail by the court on Wednesday.
Kar was arrested by the East Agartala Police on October 24 and was in jail custody since then.
The case was heard in the court on Wednesday, after Prashanta Kar’s lawyer applied for his bail on November 02. Following a lengthy question-and-answer session, the CJM court finally accepted the bail plea.
According to Prashanta Kar’s lawyer, “In between January and May 2018, Prashanta Kar has deposited a total of Rs 12.5 lakh into a woman’s bank account, who filed the complaint. This information was provided by Kar to the police immediately after his arrest. However, the police did not investigate this matter thoroughly and instead presented a questionable narrative to the court. Later, the Court rejected the appeal of police remand and instead ordered jail custody for Kar”.
“The court noted that the woman in question could not provide any information about giving money to Prashant Kar. Since the police were unable to submit a charge sheet, the court granted bail to Prashant Kar. He will be released on Thursday”, said the lawyer.
Notably, on October 20, a woman named Apu Rani Sarkar Roy filed a case at East Agartala police station, alleging that land mafia demanded Rs 2 Crores from her when she attempted to sell her property located along the National Highway between Chandrapur and Khayerpur. Following this complaint, a case was registered under specific clauses.
During the investigation, the name of land mafia Paresh Ghosh emerged. Paresh Ghosh was arrested and placed in police remand on court orders.
While in remand, Paresh Ghosh named his accomplices, including Prashanta Kar.
Consequently, the police arrested former minister Pabitra Kar’s brother Prashanta Kar from his house last Thursday morning and brought him to the police station.
