In a dramatic turn of events, as per the direction of the Belonia district court, officials took possession of the office materials including furniture of the Additional District Magistrate’s office South Tripura. The direction was passed in connection with a land acquisition petition filed by one Dilip Das. The plaintiff in his petition said that he was not duly compensated for his land acquired by railways.
Das had alleged that the Land Acquisition Collector of South Tripura failed to pay him the rightful compensation for land acquired by the railway department.
The case, registered as Execution L.A. 9/21, concluded with the court ordering the Land Acquisition Collector — who also serves as the ADM of South Tripura — to pay Dilip Das a total of Rs 42.95 lakhs including interest. The principal amount exceeds Rs 20.9 lakh, while the accumulated interest has grown to over Rs 22 lakh due to the prolonged delay in payment.
When the administration failed to comply with the court’s directive, the court authorized bailiffs Kamal Choudhury and Kishore Debbarma, along with process server Ashish Das Gupta, to take possession of the office materials.
The team arrived at the District Collector’s office and confiscated office furniture and other assets. The sized materials had been later loaded onto vehicles and shifted elsewhere.
No formal statement has been issued by the administration as yet.
