Agartala, July 17: Tripura recorded the first Covid death of the current wave and 290 new positive cases during the past 24 hours.

As per an official report, the total Covid death tally in Tripura reached 921 on Sunday.

Out of the total 2546 samples tested, Covid infection was found in the samples of 290 persons; the positive rate is 11.39 per cent.

The Covid infection is spreading fast, mostly in the West Tripura district where 157 new cases have been reported in the last 24 hours.

As part the latest report, Sepahijala district has recorded 33 cases, Khowai 12 cases, Gomati 26 cases, South Tripura 20 cases, Dhalai 15 cases, Unakoti 6 cases and North Tripura 21 cases.

As the number of active cases is continuing to increase-- 1282 at present, a rise in hospitalization of Covid-infected persons in every age group, be it children, senior citizens or young people, is also being reported.

However, this time, the Health experts are expecting a less fatality rate due to good vaccination coverage.
