Agartala, April 12: The former leader of opposition and also the CPM politburo member Manik Sarkar, Wednesday expressed his concern over the loss of his party in the recently held assembly election and said that the party organizations could not work during the last five years in Tripura in the face of ‘fascistic’ attacks.
Sarkar was addressing a condolence ceremony to remember the Agriculture Workers’ Union leader Suneet Chopra here at Agartala.
“The result of the assembly election for our party is not satisfactory as we could not work to counter the BJP’s beneficiary-oriented strategy to win the election. We lost the tradition of reaching out to the poor section of people in a political outlook,” he said.
Sarkar said, “Our party wings and organizations were demobilized during the last five years and on the other the BJP moved very strategically with their beneficiary-oriented policy to win the election. Their government in the Centre had released adequate funds to take the welfare schemes to the doorsteps of every family, especially the poor section just before the election.”
The veteran party leader, who backed his leg from contesting the assembly election this year said, “We were defeated in this recently concluded election, because at one end our organizations were dismantled, which perhaps had restricted our connection with the masses and the Left leaders and on other hand, the BJP has spent money like never before to gain the ground in this election.”
“This is to be believed that without proper functioning of organization, CPI(M) and its Left front cannot win election,” he said, adding that there is a need to restore the bond between the people, especially the poor section.
