Sonamura, Jan 16: A tribal folk dance competition was organized by the Sonamura Sub-Divisional Administration on Thursday, with the participation of three teams from four blocks in the Sonamura Sub-Division. The event was held at the community hall near the Nalchar Block Office.

Sonamura SDM Mahendra Kambe Chakma, who addressed the gathering, emphasized the importance of preserving indigenous culture and traditions, urging students and the younger generation to engage in cultural activities alongside their studies.

The winning team of the competition will participate in the Sipahijala district-level tribal folk dance competition, set to be held in Bishramganj on Friday. The district-level winner will then compete at the state level.

Despite the significance of the event, the competition saw low participation, with only three teams competing from the four blocks in the sub-division. This raised concerns about the decreasing involvement of the younger generation in cultural events, potentially leading to a disconnection from their cultural roots.
