Agartala Oct 30: One of the fundamental mantras of civilization and democracy is that all are equal in the eyes of law – however, is this really true? Even as answering this question with the help of the right kind of language as well as presenting it with logic and debate is a crucial task.
Such kind of a debate is being organized in the State after a long time – in that sense, this debate has successfully emerged as a trendsetter. 'Debate' is a popular medium to give language to the tough questions, and thoughts, which are embedded in social life, are carried silently or in some cases.
It is good that ‘Advocate Dilip Sarkar Memorial Foundation’ organized a debate on the issue titled ‘Not everyone is equal in the eyes of law’. The debate was held in jam-packed Muktadhara Auditorium in Agartala on Sunday.
Taking part in the debate, senior journalist Shekhar Datta, Advocate General Siddhartha Sankar Dey, eminent physician Dr Kanak Chowdhury, professor Dr Sutapa Das, academician Mustafa Kamal, Police officer Jayanta Malakar, Advocate Anthony Debbarma and advocate Sandip Chowdhury presented their views with critical analysis, historical facts and present-day information.
The debate on this critical issue was, however, not without humors , interesting antecedents and quips as the speakers did not miss a chance to come out with hilarious examples trying to outwit the opponents.
Chandril Bhattacharjee, an eminent Bengali essayist, lyricist, orator and director from Kolkata, moderated the debate and later on also spoke on the topic after the debate was over—maintaining a well-balanced discussion playing a Devil’s advocate on the issue in hand –that is ‘Not everyone is equal in the eyes of the law’.
Judge of High Court of Tripura Justice Arindam Lodh was present in the debate programme as the chief guest. Besides, Justice (retd) UB Saha, Justice (retd) SC Das, Lokayukt Kalyan Bhattacharjee, Senior Advocate PK Biswas, Senior Advocate PK Dhar and Advocate Ananta Banerjee, IG Arindam Nath, Editor of Ajker Fariad Shanit Debroy , Manju Sarkar and other dignitaries of State from the legal and different background were present in today’s debate.
The debate programme received a huge response from the audience.

He was not only a highly successful lawyer but also a philanthropist and also actively involved in cultural activities, especially drama".
He added, "In the 8th year of his passing away, family members, friends, acquaintances and well-wishers decided to form Advocate Dilip Sarkar Memorial Foundation.”
