Agartala Jan 06: Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumder once again urged the city dwellers to hand over garbage to collectors appointed by AMC instead of dumping them into nearby drains or roadsides.

On Monday, the Mayor visited a few areas under Ward No. 37 of the corporation under Corporator Bapi Das.

Having inspected the areas, Majumder assured to start the drain and road renovation work, as per necessity at the earliest.

Having passed necessary instructions to the engineer present, the Mayor highlighted the much-concerned issue of garbage dumping and urged the locals to be careful.

“The Corporation is working for the overall welfare of the citizens. Wherever needed, we are constructing roads, drains, renovating the older ones. But it is painful to see that a larger section of city dwellers fail to use the AMC-run garbage collection system at a cost of mere Rs 60 per month and instead dump garbage including plastic and non-degradable items near the roadside or into drains. This causes water to accumulate and mosquitoes to breed”.

He warned against throwing garbage in the drains and roadsides and urged the public to keep an eye on this issue.

State BJP vice-president Tapash Bhattacharjee among others remained present during the Mayor’s visit.
