Droupadi Murmu visits Tripura, holds meeting with MLAs, MPs

Agartala July 05: NDA- nominated candidate for Presidential election, Droupadi Murmu arrived at Agartala on Tuesday. Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha along with Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma and other dignitaries welcomed Murmu at Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport, Agartala. Amid traditional song, dance and music, the Presidential Candidate for upcoming election, Droupadi Murmu was accorded a grand reception at the MBB Airport, Agartala.
Murmu was then felicitated by the MPs and MLAs of the state amid a private programme held at Hotel Polo towers in the capital city. In the evening at around 4 pm she sat in a meeting with the MPs and MLAs of the state to garner support for her candidature.
The Presidential election will be held on July 18. For which a team of Parliament Secretariat is scheduled to reach the state by July 16 or 17 to supervise the election process.
In Tripura, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party has 36 MLAs while it’s ally, the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura, has a strength of seven legislators.
The BJP at present has two Lok Sabha MPs and no Rajya Sabha MP as Dr Manik Saha who is the incumbent Chief Minister of state resigned from the post and is yet to take oath as an MLA.
BJP-led NDAs Presidential candidate Droupadi Murmu is scheduled to leave the state on Tuesday itself.
