Durga Puja Carnival 2024: Preparation on full swing; authorities inspect sites

Agartala Sept 19: With the 4-day long Durga Puja festival round the corner, the administration has geared up its preparations including planning for smooth conduct of ‘Carnival-Maayer Gomon’.
However, unlike previous years, this year the route for Carnival, meant for Durga Dashami (idol immersion) by major clubs of the capital city has been changed by the concerned authorities.
Thursday, to visit the newly selected sites, Secretary, ICA department, Pradeep Kumar Chakravarty, AMC Mayor Dipak Majumder, AMC Commissioner Sailesh Kumar Yadav, Corporator Ratna Dutta along with other officials visited Jackson Road, the area adjacent to Tulsibati School in the city.
Talking to the reporters, Secretary ICA Department Pradeep Kumar Chakravarty said, “Considering the space issue and narrow road in City Centre area that creates traffic congestion it has been decided to see an alternative area for the construction of main stage and accordingly the route for idol immersion will also change this year”.
“We have assessed the area here in Jackson Gate and are hopeful that it will be fit for smooth and successful carnival event”, he said.
Chakravarty further informed that after a meeting with the officials from PWD, AMC and others including the Club authorities on September 22 next, the final decision will be announced.
