Agartala, Feb 08: Tripura unit of CPIM on Thursday held a rally protesting the central government's 'economic and political' attack on Kerala government.
The protest rally took place at Orient Chowmohani area in Agartala city which was led by Politburo member and former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar. CPIM state secretary Jitendra Chaudhury and other party leaders also joined the protest programme.
Sarkar emphasized, "It is imperative for us to unite and fortify our protest. Our solidarity aims to safeguard India's federal structure and strive for equilibrium in the Centre-State relationship. February 8th will be etched in red ink in the annals of Indian history."
He further said, Kerala Government wanted to get some help regarding the constitution, but they refused. Kerala has been advocating better fiscal federalism to ensure that state governments are provided with their rightful share of revenue. It has also approached the Supreme Court against the borrowing limit imposed by the Union government and “violation” of fiscal federalism.
Several state governments, mostly non-BJP ruled states, including Karnataka, Punjab, Tamil Nadu have expressed similar concerns over the policies of the BJP-led Union government and have demanded a fair share of taxes, which is the right of all states, said the former chief minister.
