Agartala Jan 22: In a significant stride towards fostering scientific temper and environmental awareness among the youth, Animesh Debbarma, Minister for Science, Technology & Environment, inaugurated a one-day training programme on DNA Club activities.
The event, organized by the Tripura Biotechnology Council, brought together headmasters, assistant headmasters, teacher coordinators and students from 40 government higher secondary schools across the state. The inauguration ceremony was held at Pragna Bhavan, Agartala, setting the stage for an enriching day ahead.
Addressing the reporters, Minister Animesh Debbarma emphasized the paramount importance of making science more accessible to the masses.
“Our aim is to take science closer to the people,” he remarked, underlining the government’s commitment to promoting scientific knowledge and engagement at the grassroots level.
The minister also reflected on the evolution and expansion of such initiatives over the years. “Earlier, these programs were conducted on a very small scale. But today, we are targeting to conduct these programs and engage all the schools and colleges of the state in it,” he noted.
Highlighting the critical role of science and technology in national progress, Minister Debbarma asserted, “A state and country cannot develop without science and technology.” The minister proudly pointed out the remarkable growth of the DNA Club initiative. Starting with a modest 37 schools, the programme has now expanded to include over 170 schools and various colleges, including NIIT Agartala, BBM College, Tripura University, among others.
“By empowering educators and providing them with the necessary tools and training, the government aims to foster a generation that is not only well-versed in scientific principles but also committed to environmental conservation and sustainability”, he added.
