Agartala Aug 25: The enforcement team of Sadar sub-divisional administration conducted a raid at the Battala market of the capital city on Sunday, aiming to control the prices of essential commodities including potato and onion.
The primary focus of the operation was on first-level sellers of potato and onion.
According to SDM Sadar, the Sadar sub-divisional administration along with the Food Department and the Legal Metrology Department are carrying out similar raids across all the city markets to ensure price stability of essential commodities and to crack down on dishonest traders following the flood situation in the state.
“The state is undergoing an unprecedented flood situation. Although there is a sufficient stock of essential commodities including potato, onion etc. few unscrupulous traders are trying to take advantage of the situation. Therefore, to put a check on the inconsistencies in the city markets we are conducting the raids”, said SDM Sadar.
He also mentioned that the retail prices of potato and onion per kg are checked and will be tallied with the wholesale price to protect consumers from inflated prices.
The officials further emphasized that such operations would continue to prevent unethical sales practices.
