Agartala Jun 26: Commemorating the birth anniversary of the revered literary figure Bankim Chandra Chatterjee, the Department of Information and Culture, Tripura, organized a tribute program on Wednesday.
The event, graced by State Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury and other dignitaries, paid homage to the literary emperor whose impact on Indian nationalism remains unparalleled.
Bankimchandra Chatterjee, often referred to as the “literary emperor,” infused his creations with a touch of patriotism. His iconic song “Vande Mataram” played a pivotal role in India’s independence movement and continues to resonate as a cornerstone of Indian national identity.
Minister Sushanta Chowdhury in his address emphasized the importance of preserving the sense of nationalism for future generations.
“By commemorating the birth anniversaries of Indian thinkers, the government aims to inspire youth with a spirit of patriotism and foster a mindset conducive to the country’s overall development. The life philosophy of freedom fighters, thinkers, and writers, he believes, can safeguard our heritage”, he said.
During the ceremony, Pradip Kumar Chakraborty, Secretary of the Department of Information and Culture, encouraged Bengalis to take pride in their cultural heritage.
While acknowledging the necessity of English, he urged efforts to kindle interest in the Bengali language among children.
Subrata Chakraborty, Vice Chairman of the State Cultural Advisory Committee and Manish Rudra Pal, an eminent educationist, also addressed the gathering.
Bimbiswar Bhattacharya, Director of the Information and Culture Department, highlighted Bankim Chandra Chatterjee’s pioneering role in Bengali literature.
The celebration extended beyond the district level with Bipasha Chakraborty, a student from Tripura Central University, delving into the literary emperor’s life philosophy. The department felicitated her during the event.
As part of the tribute, a documentary on Bankim Chandra Chatterjee’s life and literary contributions was screened.
In the second phase of the program, artists from various cultural organizations enriched the event with their participation.
