Agartala Jan 17: In a shocking incident, miscreants set fire to furniture worth approximately Rs 4 lakh after failing to steal it. The incident occurred in the area adjacent to Melaghar Barapathar Bazar under Sonamura police station.
According to the details, Malek Mia, the owner of the government-licensed Rupali Furniture and Timber in Melaghar Barapathar, was in Dharmanagar when the gang of thieves attempted to steal the furniture from his house. The thieves had taken the furniture out to the street, but fled when Malek Mia's daughter saw them.
However, the following night, on Thursday, at around 2:30 am, the miscreants returned with a more sinister plan. They inserted a piece of paper inside a pipe, poured kerosene on the wooden furniture, and set it on fire.
As the flames began to spread, Malek Mia's wife noticed the fire. She immediately alerted the rest of the family, and with the help of neighbours, they managed to extinguish the flames.
However, despite their efforts, the fire caused significant damage to the furniture, estimated to be around Rs 4 lakh.
The victim later registered a complaint with the local police station demanding investigation and arrest of the culprits.
