Forest staff demolish houses on Patta land, four families homeless

Belonia, Feb 08: Four families in a village of Rajnagar under South Tripura district were rendered homeless after their houses on Patta land were allegedly demolished by the Forest staff late Thursday night.
The incident was reported from Niharnagar Debduya Para, where the affected families claimed that the forest staff, led by Sukanta Sarkar, carried out the demolition without prior notice.
According to the victim families, they had been living on their allotted land with proper documentation.
However, in a sudden and unexpected move, the Forest personnel stormed in at night and demolished four houses. When the families tried to show their land documents, one forest staff allegedly damaged the documents.
During the demolition, a resident- Lakshmi Tripura was reportedly assaulted while attempting to resist the officials. She sustained injuries to her chest and was later taken to Niharnagar Hospital for treatment.
The four affected families of Bishnu Tripura, Katila Tripura, Lakshmi Tripura and Susmita Tripura—were rendered homeless.
Now left without shelter amid the winter cold, the displaced families are struggling to find a place to stay. The incident has sparked outrage in the local community, with many questioning the Forest department’s actions.
