Agartala, Nov 12: Four drug dealers were jailed in Tripura on Saturday under the NDPS Act. A Special Judge (NDPS), Dhalai district announced the sentence.
The four persons- Sanjit Rudra Pal, Surendra Debbarma, Prasanta Deb and Krishna Charan Debroy were arrested in connection with a case under NDPS Act registered at Ambassa Police Station in 2019.
Based on secret information, a team of police led by SDPO Ambassa raided the house of Sanjit Rudra Pal at Betbagan under Ambassa Police Station on September 24 last.
During the search, policemen recovered 7.60 grams heroin from the possession of Sanjit and arrested him along with three others.
Sub-Inspector Subir Saha of Ambassa Police Station (now posted at Chowmanu PS) thoroughly investigated the case and submitted the charge-sheet before the court.
The court found Sanjit Rudra Pal of Betbagan guilty under section 21(b) of NDPS Act and sentenced him to suffer rigorous imprisonment for 5 years and imposed a fine of Rs 50,000, in default to pay the fine, he will be liable to undergo another six months imprisonment.
The court sentenced him to additional rigorous imprisonment for 3 years and two years under Sections 25 and 29 of the NDPS Act respectively and imposed an additional fine of Rs 20,000 in both the judgments each.
Besides, the court sentenced the other three persons- Surendra Debbarma, Prasanta Deb and Krishna Charan Debroy to rigorous imprisonment for two years each under section 29 of the NDPS Act along with fine of Rs. 20,000 each, in default to pay the fine, they will be liable to undergo another six months imprisonment.
