Gandacherra, Nov 10: Four months after the severe floods, two affected families are still homeless at Ramesh Kabiraj Para under Gandacherra sub-division in Dhalai district.
While sharing the plight with the media recently, the affected families of Parimal Das and Ratan Das said, three of their mud houses completely collapsed in the floods. Besides, approximately 12 kanis of agricultural land were submerged, resulting in extensive financial losses.
The state government announced sufficient compensation but the two families alleged that they had received only Rs. 25,000 each from the Gandacherra sub-divisional administration so far.
While no further financial support has been provided, the two families have been unable to rebuild their houses due to the fund crisis. They are still taking shelter provided by the neighbours. Besides, their farmland is still under water, affecting their primary source of livelihood.
Speaking to the media, the families sought immediate government’s intervention. They called for either a government-provided house or a one-time compensation for rebuilding the houses.
