Agartala Nov 29: Tripura Bachao-Bharat Jodo Yatra was a complete success in the state, informed Tripura Pradesh Congress on Tuesday.
With an aim to spread the message of former All India Congress President Rahul Gandhi of uniting the nation and the people from the divisive policies of the BJP-led government in the State as well as in the Centre, Tripura Pradesh Congress launched the “Tripura Bachao-Bharat Jodo Yatra” on the eve of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s birth anniversary.
More than 10,000 congress workers across the state divided in groups covered a total of 14,000 km whereas the target was 12,000 km.
“We performed extremely well and beyond our goal. Common people participated in the program and greeted us enthusiastically, gladly and we received immense response from the people across the state”, said Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman.
Barman made the statements while addressing a press conference at the Pradesh Congress Bhavan, Agartala here on Tuesday.
Sudip Roy Barman said, “The motto behind the campaign was to aware the people of the state against the misrule and mis-governance that has flourished in the entire state under the BJP regime”.
“Being a constructive opposition political party, we are here to act as a bridge between the common people and the state government so that the voice of people can reach the ears of the government that has no time to listen to the common people”, he added.
Lashing out the BJP-led state government over fake promises made to the people of the state prior elections and after elections, Roy Barman questioned what is the status of 2 AIIMS that were promised by the BJP government to be built in Dhalai and TMC.
He also questioned on the developmental status of building up a IIT Hub in Old Jail Road area, 3 new Tripura Bhavan one in Mumbai, one in Bangalore and the other one in Kota Rajasthan.
Claiming that these are the questions of the common people whom the Congress party leadership and members met during the “Tripura Bachao-Bharat Jodo Yatra”, Roy Barman said, “Daily passengers have to face extreme hardships in travelling through the local trains. There are 2 MPs in the state and double-engine government too. The condition of local passenger trains must be improved and this is the demand of the common people who are bound to stand for 4-5 hrs while travelling”.
Barman also raised the issue of closing down of Distance Education system in the Tripura University adding that poor students hailing from remote areas of the state find it difficult to continue their studies. He demanded restarting the Distance Education system in the Tripura University.
The lone Congress MLA also raised the issue of attack on 4th pillar of democracy, the media, alleging that at least 40 media persons have faced attacks in these 4.6 years of BJP governance.
Sudip further demanded the state government to fulfill its promises made to the people of the state including Rs 340 per day wage under REGA, 31% DA to employees, compensation and rehabilitation to the shopkeepers of Battala whose shops were pulled down by AMC and many more.
The Congress MLA also informed that more than 47 Congress workers were attacked during the campaign across Tripura.
He criticized the state BJP government over law-and-order situation adding that the “Bike Bahini” of BJP have created a situation of terror in the entire state.
Congress further sought people's support to oust the BJP from power and establish rule of law in the state.
