Dharmanagar March 28: Halaimora in Kumarghat subdivision under Unakoti district, is all set to witness the transformation of its confluence of Deo and Manu rivers into a vibrant religious pilgrimage site. On Thursday, a majestic 12-foot-high stone idol of Goddess Ganga was installed, marking a significant milestone in local religious tourism.
The occasion was celebrated with two days of religious and social programs. Highlights included a cleaning drive, water-pouring rituals, and the symbolic installation of a goddess Ganga, drawing hundreds of devotees.
The Baruni Mela added cultural richness with Ganga Aarti, Harinam Sankirtan, and artistic performances. Maha Prasad was distributed to around five thousand pilgrims.
Breaking tradition, the event embraced inclusivity by designating Nantu Ranjan Dey, a 100% physically challenged individual, as the chief guest.
Initiated by social worker Sudarshan Baidya in 2019, the project to install the Ganga idol culminated after six years of dedication.
Efforts to enhance the area as a Devghat or Devtirth continue, promising to cement Halaimora's status as a premier religious tourism destination.
