Teliamura, July 3: In two separate drives against ganja smuggling, Tripura police seized total 1451 kg ganja worth Rs 2.7 crore from two vehicles at two different places in Teliamura Sub-division on Sunday.

Teliamura police seized total 476 kg ganja and held two persons from a lorry at Hawaibari area in Teliamura on Sunday morning.

Based on specific input, the staff of Teliamura police station stopped a lorry at Hawaibari check-post and conducted a search. It is learned that the lorry started its journey from somewhere in Agartala and was heading towards another state.

During the search police recovered total 476 kg ganja from the vehicle and arrested the driver of the vehicle- Lalmohan Ray (40) and assistant driver Pankaj Ray (30), both hail from Bihar.

In the meantime, Mungiakami police, during vehicle checking, seized total 975 kg ganja from an oil tanker at 47 miles in Mungiakami area and arrested the driver of the vehicle, Kartik Jamatia in this connection.

The combined worth of the seized ganja is around Rs 2.7 crore, SP of Khowai Bhanupada Chakraborty told reporters.
