Agartala Jan 11: In a bid to raise public awareness on TB elimination and non-communication and diseases, Health and Family Welfare Department, Govt. of Tripura organized a Cyclothon here on Wednesday.
The program was organized by NTEP, DH& FWS, West Tripura under Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan with an aim to achieve TB Free Tripura.
Dr Radha Debbarma, Director Family Welfare and PM flagged off the cycle rally in presence of other officials of the health department.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Debasish Das, CMO, West said, “The Cyclothon is to raise public awareness on TB elimination, its symptoms, treatment and other aspects related to the disease”.
He added, “Approximately 26 lakh people are contracting the disease and approximately 4 lakh people are dying from TB every year. With an aim to end TB within the year 2025 , Tuberculosis patients have been adopted under the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat across the country”.
As a part of this, in Tripura too, the health department is carrying out special drives and programs to achieve TB Mukt Tripura.
The CMO, West further mentioned that for 6 months during the treatment period, the TB patients admitted at the state government hospitals will be provided with food baskets, to meet the additional nutritional requirement.
“Provision of additional support to the TB patient shall also result in the reduction of the out-of-pocket expenditure for the family of the TB patient”, he said.
The officials further mentioned that TB treatment is completely free of cost in all state government hospitals.
