Agartala, June 21: The high-voltage vocal campaign for the ensuing by-polls to four assembly constituencies came to an end at 4 pm on Tuesday with all the candidates hoping for victory.
The polling for the all four seats will take place on June 23 and the counting of polled votes will be held on June 26 next.
All the major political parties already campaigned hard, rallied and went door-to-door in 6- Agartala, 8- Town Bordowali, 46- Surma and 57- Jubarajnagar seats while the state registered arrival of a good number of star campaigners and eminent political figures over the past two weeks.
The high-pitch campaign witnessed heated arguments on a number of issues while the opposition camp attacked the BJP-led government for alleged 'mis-governance'.
Congress candidate to Agartala Sudip Roy Barman who was hospitalized after being attacked by the miscreants on Sunday night participated in the last-day poll campaign although the BJP called it a 'Mamata model' and 'drama' for gaining public sympathy ahead of the election.
The political parties left no stone unturned to ensure victory as the by-election is being considered as semi-finals before Tripura goes to the next assembly polls early next year.
Twenty-two candidates of various political parties will contest the by-elections to four assembly seats.
Total 24 candidates had filed nominations for the by-polls. After scrutiny, one nomination of AITC in the Town Bordowali seat was rejected. Besides, one independent candidate- Rekha Sabar had withdrawn her nomination from Surma seat.
According to an official report, 22 candidates—six from 6- Agartala and 8-Town Bordowali each and five from 46- Surma and 57- Jubarajnagar each—are in the contest.
While the people are expecting a multi-cornered contest in all four seats, all eyes are now set at 8- Town Bordowali constituency where Dr. Manik Saha, who took oath as the Chief Minister of Tripura on May 15 last, is contesting.
