Belonia, Sept 05: Alorani Dey, an elderly woman from Uttar Sonaichari village in Belonia sub-division, has been facing serious hardships in caring for her two minor grandsons.
According to Dey, despite having disability certificates, the two children have not yet received the entitled government benefits.
The elderly woman’s appeals for providing the government benefits have largely gone unheard so far.
The minor boys- Bishwajit Dey (13) and Shubhrojit Dey (9) lost their mother- Shilpi Dey six months ago under mysterious circumstances while the father Subrata Dey died just seven days ago. The loss of parents has left the duo completely dependent on their grandmother.
Bishwajit and Shubhrojit were not born disabled. However, five years ago, they were struck by an unknown illness that left them unable to walk.
In 2019, the duo was granted disability certificates, but their family has not yet received the aid except receiving a single wheelchair.
The situation has left Alorani and her grandsons in a dire state, struggling to survive. The family’s only source of income comes from a small roadside shop, which is insufficient to cover their basic needs. They live in a tiny, dilapidated hut, relying on the insufficient earnings from the shop.
As the survival of her grandchildren hangs in the balance, the woman has made an appeal for immediate government assistance.
