Agartala, June 29: The intern doctors of the Tripura Medical College on Wednesday decided to call off their 18 days long strike seeking hike in stipend.
“As our college authority assured us that they will accept our demands and resolve our problems, we decided to call off our strike and we shall join our duty very shortly,” said intern doctors.
The intern doctors launched strike for an indefinite period from June 13 last demanding an increase in honorarium and waiving of hostel fees, following which the medical service in the hospital was severely affected.
According to the intern doctors, the allowance was increased to Rs 14,500 in 2017. However, it was not decided then that the hostel fee would be deducted from their allowance. “Every month Rs 2,000 is being deducted from our allowance for hostel fee. As a result, the interns are receiving only Rs 12,500,” they told reporters on Wednesday.
They said, “The college authorities discussed and assured us that our demands will be fulfilled in the society meeting, following which we decided to lift the strike soon.”
