Agartala, Nov 17: Minister for Drinking Water and Sanitation (DWS) Sushanta Chowdhury on Thursday reviewed the implementation status of Jal Jeevan Mission.
Taking part in the review meeting held at Prajna Bhavan, Agartala, he passed an instruction to the officials concerned to work on a mission mode for achieving the target of providing free water connections to every household by December.
Speaking to the media, he said, the free water connections have already been provided to 55 percent rural households; the target is to ensure the drinking water facility to around 7,45,000 households under the Jal Jeevan Mission by December this year.
“The Jal Jeevan Mission scheme has been launched in Tripura in 2019. We started with water connections in only 3 percent of the households. Now, we are reaching the target of 55 percent. There are around 7,42,000 households in the rural areas,” he told reporters.
Expressing hope, he said the target would be achieved within the stipulated time since there is no shortage of funds and the works are going on in full swing.
A government press release said, 616 deep tube wells, 2723 small bore deep tube wells, 61 innovative water supply schemes, 3 surface water treatment plants and 68 iron removal plants have been installed in the state since launch of the Jal Jeeval Mission.
The release also said, tap water connections have been provided to 3571 schools and 5009 Anganwadi Centres. Besides, 100 percent households in 47 villages have been brought under the Jal Jeevan Mission scheme.
Secretary of DWS Abhishek Singh, Chief Engineer (DWS) Shyamlal Bhowmik, Director Rajib Majumder and officers from various DWS circles and divisions were present in the review meeting.
