Agartala, Nov 13: With barely three months left for the crucial 2023 assembly election in Tripura, the opposition CPI-M state secretary Jitendra Choudhuri Sunday called for united resistance against the ‘fascistic’ BJP and oust its government from power.
Choudhuri was addressing a convention on prevention of rights of the farmers and workers here at Agartala Town Hall.
The CPI-M leader in his speech on Sunday underlined the Kerala model and said, “Everything is possible if the government desires to change its policy.” He said, “The Kerala government has announced a minimum of Rs. 18000 wages for the workers in government private sectors, Rs. 600 as daily wages for the Rega workers and in addition to this the government in Kerala also announced a minimum support price for at least 14 vegetables in the state.”
He slammed the BJP and said, “At a time when the farmers were in movement to repeal the three farm laws, following which the Prime Minister Narendra Modi had to step back to withdraw the laws, the BJP rather than announcing the next action plan for the farmers and despite the Lakhimpur Kheri incident, had swept the election in Uttar Pradesh with majority votes for Yogi Adityanath in the name of ‘Hindutwa’. The BJP diverted the mind of the farmers in the name of preserving the rights of Hindus in the country.”
“I am concern of the fact that the BJP may implement the same policy of ‘Hindutwa’ here in the state of Tripura for the upcoming 2023 elections which is very crucial, whereas the farmers and working class people in our state are being deprived at large as during the 56 months, the BJP government has looted and cheated the people of this state and nothing else for development,” he said, adding that there is a need for united resistance against this BJP and its evil forces.
He said, “There is a chance to oust this fascistic BJP government from power in Tripura. We are planning to move to Delhi with the farmers and workers to seek our rights, but before that we need to create a proper atmosphere in our state in 2023 election by removing the evil forces and enemies of our farmers and workers.”
Former transport minister of the then Left front government and also the CITU leader Manik Dey and Shankar Prasad Dutta among others were present in the convention and addressed the gathering.
