Agartala Aug 25: Various places in the state and capital city are facing severe challenges in the post-flood situation. While the floods have left a trail of destruction everywhere, thousands of families are still spending days at the relief camps.
Amid sufferings of the flood-affected communities, CPI-M state secretary and MLA Jiten Choudhury visited the Harijan Colony area on Sunday.
Talking to the reporters, the leader of opposition claimed that despite the ongoing crisis, adequate relief measures have not been provided to the affected population in this region.
“I know that the government is working to help the affected community. But the amount of destruction to life and property because of the recent floods is much severe than that accessed by the government. At many places, people are in dire need of food, drinking water and medical supplies”, he said.
Talking about the affected residents of Harijan Colony, Choudhury claimed that the lack of tangible assistance has left the community disillusioned and anxious about their future.
He further opined that the amount of relief fund sanctioned by the central government is much less compared to the losses and therefore a central government team must reach Tripura to assess the ground situation so that adequate funds can be received to help the victims.
