Agartala, Nov 18: After the regional TIPRA Motha, the opposition CPI-M on Friday resented the union government’s denial to introduce announcements in Kokborok language in Agartala MBB airport, which also one of the official languages of the state of Tripura.
The CPI-M state secretary Jitendra Choudhuri on Friday referred to the letter of the Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia to the TIPRA Motha chairman Pradyot Kishore Debbarman and said, “The way union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia replied to the letter of Debbarman over the issue of the not preferring Kok-Borok language announcements in Agartala MBB airport, it is nothing but an insult to the indigenous community people of this state of Tripura.”
Scindia on November 16 last on his reply letter to Pradyot said, “Though Bengali and Kok-Borok, both have been declared as State Languages by the Government of Tripura, Bengali has been preferred for announcements at the airport due to its wide spread use in the nearby areas.”
