Joint delegation from Tripura meets Union Minister, discusses news channel issue

Agartala, Feb 05: A joint delegation of Assembly of Journalists and Tripura Electronics Media Society called on Union Minister for Information and Broadcast Anurag Thakur in New Delhi on Monday and discussed the issue related to telecast of news channels in cable networks.
A joint press statement issued by the two media bodies said, the Union Minister gave a patience hearing to the state’s delegation and assured them of taking necessary steps.
According to the press release, the Union Minister praised the role of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, who intervened into the issue and brought it to the knowledge of the Union Minister.
The representatives pointed out that in Tripura the electronics media lacks both infrastructure and financial support for satellite channels and as such the viewers are dependent on cable channels only. They also requested the Union Minister to spare Tripura from the new registration process.
The delegation included Pranab Sarkar, Sebak Bhattacharjee, Jayanta Debnath, Biswendu Bhattacharjee, Sourajit Paul, Ranjit Debbarma, Prasenjit Bhattacharjee, Hanif Ali, Arghajyoti Dutta, Samaresh Dey and Manas Debbarma.
