Agartala Nov 16: Inaugurating a three-day long Photography and Art Exhibition organized by the Streets of Tripura (SOT) Collective at Nazrul Kalakshetra on Saturday under the banner of ‘Lens 3.O’, Tripura High Court Justice Arindam Lodh emphasized social responsibility of a person who takes photographs, mentioning his/her capacity to choose what he/she leaves inside and outside the frame.
Noting that ‘photography can become a visual memory of people’, Justice Lodh said, “A photographer acts with both his brain and eyes at the same time. This brilliant skill of photographers can be a source of great knowledge, visual education for the common masses which, if used ethically, can focus on the most crucial aspects of the society that needs to be addressed along with representation of culture, heritage and entertainment purposes”.
Drawing out examples of few such instances where the High Court of Tripura took suo moto cases to address crucial issues based on photographs, issues highlighted and addressed though newspapers in common interest of the citizens, Justice Lodh urged the photographers to take Photography as a social function aiming to promote change, social development and empowerment of people.
The opening day of the exhibition showcased visual stories capturing diverse aspects including culture and heritage of Tripura, landscapes etc. by local and regional artists.
Also, it is a blend of modern and traditional art forms, combining photography with illustrative and conceptual pieces, along with providing a platform for community engagement, fostering dialogue and inspiration.
The opening day also saw the presence of renowned photographer of the state, Parth Sarathi Chakraborty, as special guest along with members of SOT and others.
The vibrant exhibition promises a series of attractions for the art lovers including, a documentary film (Finding Vivian Maier) and workshop by Apu Das on the second day, Documentary (Tales of Robin Sengupta) along with certificate distribution on the closing day.
The event, free for all, will continue till November 18 while the doors will be open from 4:00pm in the evening till 9:00pm.
