Agartala, Nov 21: The Left front’s Samyukt Kisan Morcha farmers’ body in Tripura on Thursday announced to join the nation-wide ‘Chetavni Rally’ on November 26 next to mark the four years of the farmers’ march to Delhi in protest of the 3 farm laws of the Centre.
Addressing a press conference here at Agartala, the Left farmers’ body leader and former minister of the then Left front government Pabitra Kar said that the general body of SKM held a meeting in Delhi and decided to call upon the farmers across the country to join the ‘Chetavni rally’, which will mark the 4th anniversary of the farmers’ march to Delhi that continued for 384 days and forced the NDA government to repeal the farm laws.
He said that the Samyukt Kisan Morcha jointly with the state committee of the Central Trade union will hold movements in all the districts of the state on November 26 next and press for a 12-point charter of demands.
The demands mainly include – MSP@C2+50% with legally guaranteed procurement for all crops, to repeal the four labor codes that were introduced by the Narendra Modi-led government, minimum wages of Rs 26000 and Rs10,000 as monthly pension at the age of 60 years and others.
Kar further elaborated that the ‘Chetavani Jamaat’ would set a three-month deadline for the government to address the long-pending demands of farmers and workers. “If positive steps are not taken within this period, a larger and more robust movement will be launched,” he said.
