Sabroom, Aug 31: The delegates of the opposition CPI(M) and the Left front led by the MLA Jitendra Choudhury on Saturday visited Sabroon in South Tripura district and distributed relief materials including food to the flood affected people in the subdivision.
Briefing about the programme, the CPI(M) state secretary and MLA Jitendra Choudhury told reporters that the party has targeted at least 1000 flood affected families for the distribution of some relief materials including some food items.
Remembering the devastating flood situation in the state, the MLA said that several were rendered homeless, while many houses were damaged in the subdivision, which is worst affected by the flood. He said that both the government and the opposition parties are putting utmost effort to stand by the flood affected people through various means.
On the other hand, the MLA urged upon the government to stand by the farmers and their families through enhancing works under MGNREGA. He said that the farmers were affected at large by the flood and provision of assistance from NDRF and SDRF will not be adequate enough for the affected farmers to recover their losses and hence the government needs to generate more mandays and increase wage under the MGNREGA scheme.
The relief materials were distributed among the affected families of different parts of the subdivision including Battala, Madhab Nagar, Gour Singh Bari, Amalighat, Meru Para, Panikatha, Poangbari and other parts.
