Agartala March 25: Minister Ratan Lal Nath's controversial remarks during the assembly session on Monday have sparked widespread condemnation from left-leaning student and youth organizations, including SFI, TYF, DYFI, and others.
The comments, directed at the Leader of the Opposition, Jitendra Chowdhury, were criticized as ‘vulgar, unconstitutional, and caste-based’.
At a press conference held at Chhatra Juba Bhavan on Tuesday, DYFI State secretary Nabarun Deb strongly denounced the remarks, accusing the RSS and BJP of spreading societal discord.
He alleged that Minister Nath's statements revealed the divisive agenda of the ruling party.
Deb also criticized the silence of Tribal Ministers and MLAs from IPFT and TIPRA Motha, who were present during the session but did not object to the remarks.
“Instead, their apparent support was seen as a betrayal of their claimed sympathy for tribal communities”, claimed Deb.
The DYFI state secretary further accused the ruling party of ignoring pressing issues such as unemployment, poverty, and institutional corruption in the state.
He claimed that such comments by ruling party members aim to distract from these critical matters and embolden anti-social elements.
In response to the incident, left organizations announced plans for a state-wide movement, including street protests, to demand accountability and uphold constitutional values.
SFI State secretary Sandipan Deb and other leaders were also present at the press conference.
