Locals demand to settle impasse over Rudrasagar management
Agartala, Apr 16, 2023, TRIPURA TIMES Desk
Sonamura, April 16: Neermahal in the middle of Rudrasagar is one of the key tourist destinations in Tripura. Besides, over three thousands of families manage their livelihoods based on Rudrasagar or cultivation.
But there is a long-standing issue following which the farmer families are facing a problem. A good portion of farming lands taken on lease from Rudrasagar Udvastu Samabay Samity have gone under the water.
Meanwhile, there is an order from the High Court of Tripura (dated 27/09/2022) for maintaining the water level at a height of 11 meters.
The problem, however, is that the navigability of Rudrasagar, a Ramsar Convention site, continued to reduce over the years following siltation. In such a situation, dredging of the lake becomes essential to solve the problem. Earlier, initiatives were taken but the problem remained unsolved till date. A dredging machine was also taken at Rudrasagar but it remained idle.
As Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha is scheduled to hold a review meeting on the matter along with the officials of various departments and representatives of Rudrasagar Udvastu Samabay Samity at the secretariat on Monday, the local people are hopeful that the meeting would bring a positive outcome.
Even, local MLA Kishore Barman along with the representatives of Rudrasagar Udvastu Samabay Samity- Pabitra Kumar Das and Parameswar Das held a press conference on Sunday with a focus to solve the issue; they stressed on a proper solution in view of protecting the income source of the people living around Rudrasagar.
