Agartala Jan 17: The road construction project, which has been ongoing for almost three years since its inception, has been a source of frustration and complaints from the public. The stretch of road from Udaipur Matabari to Sonamura Srimantapur Checkpost, a crucial route in the state, has faced numerous challenges and criticisms.
One of the main issues raised by the public is the irregularities in the construction of the wall adjacent to the road.
“These irregularities have led to cracks and even collapses in the wall after its construction. Along with rigging in the carpeting process, the work is also going on at an extremely slow pace”, alleged one of the locals.
The project, contracted to Satish Prasad Company from outside the state, was allocated a budget of approximately Rs 111 crore.
However, despite the significant investment and the extended duration of construction, complaints about the speed and quality of work have persisted.
Currently, pitch pouring work is underway in some sections of the road. However, this phase of the construction has also been met with complaints from the local residents. Specifically, pitch laying work in the south bank of Sonamura Samhati Bridge to Rabindranagar Shantipally.
Locals have reported issues with the quality of the work, with drivers and residents observing that the asphalt and stones are coming off the road after only a few vehicles have passed by.
Public expressed their frustration, with some even picking up loose stones by hand to highlight the subpar quality of the work.
They demanded the government to ensure that the road is constructed according to all quality standards, emphasizing the importance of this infrastructure for the development of people from all sections.
If the standards are not met, they have called for a halt to the temporary work. Moreover, they have threatened to block the road in the coming days if their concerns are not addressed.
