Agartala Sept 14: All India Mahila Congress, recognized for its dedication to service, courage and self-respect, is set to celebrate its 40th foundation day on Sunday next. The Tripura Pradesh Mahila Congress will mark this occasion with enthusiasm and joy, said Mina Toko, vice-president, Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee.
Mina Toko, vice-president Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee in presence of Tripura Pradesh Women Congress president Sarbani Ghosh Chakraborty while briefing the press on Saturday, announced the launch of a new website for the Mahila Congress organization. The women’s wing of the age-old party will also initiate a membership campaign on the same day.
Toko while addressing the reporters said, “The foundation day will be celebrated across all districts and blocks, with participation from executive members and Mahila Congress headquarters in every state and union territory. The Mahila Congress will reaffirm its commitment to women’s justice and empowerment”.
“The membership campaign, which will be entirely online, allows women from all classes to join the Mahila Congress for a five-year term by paying a nominal fee of Rs. 100. Upon payment, members will receive an online membership certificate. The campaign will be promoted through various means, including posters, pamphlets, banners, and social media, with Sunita Gawande overseeing the efforts at the central level”, she added.
Toko further highlighted the organization’s demand for the removal of certain provisions in the 106th Amendment Act, which delay the reservation of seats for women in the Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies until 2029.
The Mahila Congress will advocate for the immediate implementation of these reservations, she said.
On behalf of Tripura Pradesh Mahila Congress, Mina Toko also called for the appointment of more women to high posts, the implementation of ‘equal work, equal pay’ to prevent salary discrimination, and the strict enforcement of laws protecting women from workplace harassment and domestic violence.
The organization aims to reserve 50 percent of Central Government jobs for women by 2025 and will continue to educate women about their rights and assist them in securing their legal entitlements, she said.
