Teliamura, June 23: 18 people have been infected with malaria in Mungiakami for the last one fortnight. Out of them, 17 have returned home after recovering. One person is currently undergoing treatment at Mungiakami Primary Health Center for malaria. Outbreaks appear to be exacerbated during the months of May, June and July. For this, the state health department always takes some precautionary measures. The victims come to Mungiakami Primary Health Center for medical services. According to a source at Mungiakami Health Center, 18 out of 17 malaria patients have recovered and returned home. The rest of the infected patients are currently undergoing treatment at Mungiakami Primary Health Center. Authorities at Mungiakami Hospital are reportedly conducting health camps in the affected areas to prevent the spread of the disease. But questions are being raised about the quality of free medicine in those health camps. Complaints are often made that health camps are not being set up properly in the affected areas. Almost every household in the area is suffering from fever due to lack of financial resources. On the other hand, most of the people of Jumia class are suffering from malaria. Especially under Mungiakami RD block, Bilai Hum Riang Para, Kankara Chhara, Nunachhara, Chhanpara, Khaklai, Bilai Khang, Biladhan, Chowdhury Riang Para and its surrounding areas are identified as malaria prone areas, according to a health department source. However, due to financial constraints, the tribes, who are in dire need of money, are not able to come to Mungiakami health center and avail medical services. According to the on-duty doctor, two teams of health workers were regularly visiting the malaria affected areas and free medicines were being provided to the tribal people in the area, including blood samples from the tribes.
