Agartala, Feb 06: West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee arrived in Tripura on Monday on a two-day visit.
Soon after arriving in the state, the TMC supremo accompanied by AITC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee visited Mata tripura Sundari Temple in Udaipur.
Speaking to the media at the temple premises, Banerjee said, she offered puja to ensure the welfare of our Maa-Maati-Maanush.
She reached Agartala on Monday afternoon and interacted with the Pradesh Trinamool Congress leaders at the airport.
Expressing her thoughts on the state, she said, “When no one was there and BJP was oppressing the people, Trinamool Congress was the only party standing with the people here. Even journalists have reported how the members of the media fraternity have been attacked.”
Recalling the days of the past when she campaigned extensively in Tripura, Banerjee said, “I was among the three leaders who worked the most when Congress came to power in this state. This is why I know various areas in Tripura; from Sonamura to Kailashahar.”
Drawing parallels between the cultures in Tripura and West Bengal, she said, “Bengal and Tripura share a deep connection. I consider Tripura as my home so I have returned to my home. I can speak my language here and eat the food I like. From food to attire to behaviour, everything is almost the same.”
Sharing her concern over the breakdown of law and order in the state, Banerjee added, “Our people have been attacked. The vehicles of leaders – including Sushmita Dev, Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, Dola Sen, Rajib Banerjee, and Abhishek Banerjee – have been vandalised. I will not do any political programme today but hold a rally tomorrow.”
On Tuesday morning, the TMC supremo along with Abhishek Banerjee will hold a rally in the capital from Rabindra Bhawan at 11 am, following which a street corner will be held at Rabindra Bhawan.
